Analytics and privacy
We use self-hosted Umami to understand which pages and features people use. Analytics uses no tracking cookies or cross-site identifiers. Visitor counts are approximate, not identified people.
We record page paths, referring website origins, device and browser categories, page performance, and actions such as opening search, applying filters, visiting a mine, or starting a citation upload. We do not record search text, URL query strings, uploaded file names, citation documents, or their contents in analytics.
The analytics service processes connection addresses to derive anonymous identifiers. Raw IP addresses are not stored in our visitor database or request reports. Browser Do Not Track settings are respected, and local development and private preview visits are excluded.
Visitor analytics and aggregate request reports are retained for 90 days. Redacted request logs rotate daily, with at most seven archived files retained for up to seven days under the rotation policy. These reports help us understand API traffic, crawler claims, errors, and response times; request counts do not represent unique visitors.
Analytics runs on Realm’s own infrastructure. Interactive maps separately request map tiles from OpenStreetMap, whose servers receive those requests.
